Opening night – A success!

April 22, 2019 by Oxanna Adams

Over 100 people helped Barb Shaw and me celebrate our passion for the northern landscape.

I was thrilled to see all my art together. One painting is a paragraph – a grouping tells a story.
My two West Fjords paintings (on the left) are grouped with Barb’s Iceland vistas.
The wall of reds and oranges was very popular.

A trip to Canada’s north.

March 28, 2019 by Oxanna Adams

My obsession with northern landscapes continues. This time I stayed in North America and took part in a 12 day guided raft trip down the Alsek River.

We started in Kluane National Park, Yukon Territory.
Fisher Glacier, Yukon Territory
The Alsek River feeding into Lowell Lake with the glacier of the same name in the background.
The confluence of the Alsek and Tatshenshini Rivers, northwest British Columbia.
Alsek Lake, Alaska. No wonder so many of my paintings are turquoise!
The many ice formations on Alsek Lake. It was a short excursion from here to the Gulf of Alaska and the end of our trip.

Art on a CD cover

March 28, 2019 by Oxanna Adams

One of my early watercolours is on the cover of a CD recently recorded by a local group Benjamin’s Kite.

This is the original watercolour. It still hangs above our fireplace.
I love how Guelph graphic designer Gareth Lind zoomed in for more detail and abstraction.

About

I am attracted to northern landscapes - regions that are less traveled and magnificent in their wildness. My abstractions tell a story of powerful places that lift the spirit and stir the soul. I use oil paint mixed with cold wax medium to build up layers from which shapes emerge and colours solidify. The results are always unpredictable and surprising, mirroring my travel experiences. The memorable gems of discovery are those that emerge at the least expected moment.
